Oxidative stress: The cause of many disorders

Oxidative stress: Detecting and treating stress

During the metabolic processes, molecules lacking an electron and called free radicals develop in every cell of the human body. These free radicals continuously try to replace their missing electrons by seizing them from other molecules. This causes more and more new radicals to form, resulting in a chain reaction and hence constant propagation of the radicals within the body. The result of this chain reaction is oxidative stress, which increases the risk for numerous diseases.

An anti-oxidant test sheds light on the ratio of free radicals to antioxidants (radical scavengers). The test demonstrates how well the body is able to render free radicals harmless and thus protect itself from the damage they cause. At the same time, the antioxidant test sheds light on the extent and severity of the oxidative stress and facilitates adequate therapy.
